Made with world leading 14 gauge Swedish Kanthal industrial heating elements. These are some of the best heating elements in the world! The thicker gauge makes them rugged and they last much longer than the 16 gauge so common in many furnaces on the market today.
Our bench-top 1.5KW 70 oz metallurgical smelting furnace is a compact electric furnace for melting scrap, reclaiming, alloying, and refining various metals. It is perfect for pouring melted metals in casting operations when making bars or buttons. The unit is designed to heat up quickly (20 -35 minutes for different materials) and allow you to take the molten material with the included tongs to pour directly from the 2 kilogram crucible.
This furnace is automatic and features a microprocessor PID control. This allows for extremely precise melting temperatures of metals such as high-karat gold, silver, copper, brass, and bronze. The electronic feature regulates the temperature by providing full power input to the furnace until a selected temperature is attained. While this is happening though the high capacity 4 ½” continuous running cooling fan is keeping the electronic components cool and below a safe operating temperature for a smooth and worry free operation. Something important to note, usually when you set temperatures, especially when first heating up the furnace, the actual read-out and temperature reached is going to be 50-100 degrees more than what you set the furnace to. The explanation is that the inside of the furnace where the thermocoupler is situated is going to get hot first and the fastest. But the outer parts of the heating chamber, insulation, and furnace will not be so hot. What will then happen, even though the heating coil is no longer powering up and the furnace is no longer actively heating, because the rest of the furnace is "catching" up with the center and hottest part of the furnace, you will inadvertently reach higher temps than you were set for. That is perfectly normal. But eventually the temperature will come back down and stabilize and will hold to a +/- 5F. Maximum temperature is 1200°C/2192°F.
Setting the temp is easy. It requires you to "set" the desired temp twice. Plug the unit in. The fan will turn on. You then flip the on switch. Using the "down" button take the digital display's number to the temperature you want to set to. For example, gold melts at 1,948°F. So using the "down" button you set the temperature to 1,948°F. You then hit "set". A screen full of zeros will appear. The next step is to via a combination of ">", "down", and "up" buttons set the numerical value to the same as before; in this case 1,948°F. You then hit the "set" button and you are done. You have successfully set the temperature. You follow that procedure for any temperature that you wish to use the electric melting furnace at.
